More than 3.5m people work from home, according to research published by the TUC, which says there are cost and productivity benefits to be gained by organisations in adopting a more flexible approach to working in these straitened times. TUC general secretary Brendan Barber says: "As the recession puts the squeeze on company finances, encouraging staff to work from home is a great way to save money and offer a better work-life balance. "Working from home can save on office rent, energy and transport costs, making it an attractive solution for employers and their staff during the recession."
