Brazil turns to gas as hydro back-up

Reservoir levels in Brazil's southeast and central-west, the most populous and advanced industrial and agricultural region, fell to 49.26% of their total potential capacity in September, compared with 70.31% a year earler, according to the ONS, the national grid operator. To halt any further decline and hopefully boost reservoir levels, the ONS called on state oil and gas company Petrobras to boost power generation from natural gas, fuel oil and thermal plants.
