Translation and emotion: A psychological perspective

In contrast to the increased research interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and translation, the relationship between human beings' emotional intelligence (EI) and translation has not yet received much attention. In light of the necessity to address translation from the affective perspective, Severine Hubscher-Davidson draws our attention to emotional sciences in translation studies in her pioneering book Translation and emotion: a psychological perspective. Casting its light over the influence of translators' emotions on decision-making and problem-solving processes, this book presents an innovative perspective by exploring the correlation between emotion traits (or 'typical representations of individual differences related to emotions' [Silvia, 2008, p. 94]) and translation at different stages, and offers 'a new critical approach to the study of emotion in translation by drawing on a case study of emotional intelligence involving 155 translators' (p. 4).
