"While carrying out some research recently in the Public Record Office, London, for a book on Middle East Railways, I was intrigued to find that MEF GHQ Order METN/158.dated 20 Feb 1942. was for nine 3 ft.6 in.gauge 4-6-2 locomotives to be sent from New Zealand for use in the Sudan.The order was in fact cancelled within a few months, but it would be interesting to know whether any specific New Zealand locomotives were earmarked for this proposed overseas service."
