Qualcomm used 28nm HPM to boost the speed of its Krait CPU to 2.3GHz (see MPR 1/18/13) and will follow in 2014 with 2.5GHz processors (see MPR 12/2/13). The company upgraded its low-end 8225 processor to the 8226 (see MPR 2/25/13) and 8926 (see MPR 6/17/13), then preannounced the 8916 for 2014 (see MPR 12/23/13). Its other low-end products include the Krait-based 8230AB (see MPR 3/11/13). MediaTek delivered the industry's first quad-core Cortex-A7 processor, the MT6589 (see MPR 2/25/13), before extending its line downward with the dual-core MT6572 (see MPR 5/6/13) and upward with the octa-core MT6592 (see MPR 12/2/13). Its MT8135 is the industry's first Big.Little processor to implement heterogeneous multiprocessing (see MPR 8/12/13).
