Famed futurist and author Alvin Toffler was credited with coining the term "information overload." Toffler foresaw a time when technology would produce such a glut of information that people would have great difficulty processing and absorbing it all. He predicted that individual productivity would suffer as users struggled to keep up. Making informed decisions would be clouded by the information stream, according to Toffler's premise, and information anxiety would settle in and eventually society would turn on the technological monster. This may be a pretty far-fetched prediction, but given the seemingly never-ending avalanche of Web based content jamming our servers, maybe he was onto something.
