Hagel Lays Out Six Priorities For FY-15 Budget And QDR

The Defense Department's evolving budget and strategy will protect investments in emerging capabilities, shrink U.S. forces and DOD's bureaucracy, rethink the Pentagon's force-planning construct and confront major readiness challenges, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said this week. In a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Hagel identified six priorities, informed by the Strategic Choices and Management Review, which are guiding DOD's fiscal year 2015 budget plans and the ongoing Quadrennial Defense Review. Hagel privately discussed the priorities last week in a meeting with the service chiefs and combatant commanders, a senior defense official said.
