When you recognize employees meaningfully for their contribution, you give them a major reason to stay with you. This is something every HR pro understands. But do you know why patting somebody on the back for a job well done resonates so powerfully with them? It's because when a manager gives feedback that is positive, personal and specific, the employee actually hears more than what is said. It's as if the employee translates the manager's positive message into his or her own internal support language.
