Considering that the 6.3-magni-tude earthquake that struck the city of Christchurch on New Zealand's South Island February 22 ranks as the most destructive tremor ever to hit the country — almost 200 people were counted among the dead as of early April — it's hardly surprising that hotel data from the region is almost as sobering. STR Global reported a 15.3% occupancy decrease in Christchurch for the first two months of 2011, a number strongly influenced by a 25.2% drop in occupancy in February.
