The UK plans a new concert hall in London to welcome home Sir Simon Rattle after 15 years with the Berlin Philharmonic at the Philharmonie Hall. A big new London hall with good acoustic will be welcome, to share the cultural load with the Royal Festival Hall and Barbican. The Royal Albert Aircraft Hanger is big, but best suited to jolly Proms and Raymond Gubbay's amplified operas. Hearing Sir Willard White without a mic at Kings Place recently was an acoustic joy, but like the Cadogan and Wigmore it's too small for big name conductors. The new Millennium Centre hall in Cardiff Bay is big with good sound. But it's in Cardiff.
