Die Bepflanzung mit dienenden und führenden Gehölzen ist weit verbreitet, zeigt jedoch auch Schwachstellen. Mit der integralen Be-pflanzungsmethode lassen sich geplante Pflanzenbilder besser erzielen und langfristig Kosten sparen - ein neues Computerprogramm stützt sich dabei auf gesicherte Erkenntnisse.%In Germany it is customary to plant green urban open spaces with two- or three-year-old dominant and subordinate indigenous species at three- to four-feet intervals. This provides vegetation cover fairly quickly, suppresses weeds and the costs of the plants are fairly low. However, the approach entails disadvantages: the plants require regular thinning out, a measure that often meets with public protest. An alternative is the integral planting method, a Dutch approach in which relatively mature plants are set at the intervals they need to have when fully grown. Labour-intensive thinning out is not required, but the plants cost more to buy. A comparison of the two approaches on the basis of especially developed software reveals that the integral method is initially more expensive but over the long run is more economical in terms of maintenance and overall effectiveness.
