Section 476 Shipowner A Shipowner (Reeder) is a person who owns a ship which is operated by him in commercial navigation. Section 477 Operator (1) An Operator (Ausrüster) is a person who operates a ship in commercial navigation which does not belong to him. (2) In relation to third parties, an Operator is regarded as being a Shipowner. (3) Where a third party makes a claim against the owner of a ship on the basis that the owner is a Shipowner (2), the owner may only claim that the ship is being operated in commercial navigation by an Operator and not by him if he informs the third party without undue delay after the claim is made of the name and address of the Operator.
