A field-matching method with dyadic Green's function was presented in this article for analyzing the high-frequency characteristics of a meander-line slow-wave structure (ML-SWS). The effects of the metal shield and the thickness of the meander line were considered in the theoretical model. The theoretical results with five modes were calculated and compared with the simulated ones. The relative error in each phase shift was obtained, which demonstrates that theoretical calculated and simulated results are in good agreement. The conditions of band gap and crossing of neighboring modes were discussed. The effects of the thickness variation on high-frequency characteristic of the ML-SWS were also analyzed. In addition, some problems resulted in the confusion between different modes were also analyzed and discussed.
