This book is a timely contribution to an education arena that is facing a host of challenges brought about, largely, by the expectations of a generation of learners for whom technology is 'second nature'. While this book was clearly written and structured, resulting in a very accessible read, it drew from various fields to offer, as the author put it, "a holistic blended learning approach, combining the best of traditional and new approaches to learning and teaching to make optimum use of the advantages of each while minimizing the disadvantages". There is evidence of the author drawing from a diverse range of materials and, as such, the book provides a useful summary of pedagogical themes and a good source for supplementary reading. The suggestion that it is, primarily, intended for use by information professionals is perhaps a little modest since its contents are transferable to the process of facilitating learning in any discipline. Indeed, from a HE lecturer's perspective, Allen's work has prompted another process of reflection on my own approach to the design and delivery of modules.
