Dual Nationality: Threat to National Identity, or Harbinger of a Better World

In the last few years, there has been a great deal of discussion, in journals of law and in the world of politicalphilosophy and political science, of the significance of the rise in “dual nationality” or “dual citizenship” in thecountries of immigration of North America and Western Europe. Dual citizenship also became an issue in politicsand journalistic discussion in the United States, particularly when Mexico, the source of the largest number ofimmigrants, legal and illegal, to the United States, changed its constitution and its laws to permit Mexicans who hadnaturalized as American citizens in the United States to reclaim a form of Mexican nationality.
