A genetic map of the rye genome consisting of 149 RFLP, 20 isozyme, and 12 microsatellite markers was made. Multiple translocations in the rye genome in comparison to wheat and barley genomes were detected using a set of cross-hybridizing probes. However, pronounced marker collinearity observed within large genome regions permits the use of this method for comparative mapping of currently identified genes. Eighteen morphological genes valuable for selection were localized on the genetic map using various rye populations. The comparative analysis of homeologous loci was performed for genomes of Triticeae species as well as rice and maize genomes. It was demonstrated that genes controlling a number of morphological traits such as plant height, photoperiod response, and vernalization/winter habit are highly conservative in cereals and form distinct homeologous rows.
