During the early 1920s the slow pace of aeronautical development was even more pronounced in flying-boats, which did not experience the acceleration of landplane developments at the end of the decade. The biplane configuration dominated flying-boat design and most efforts were aimed at military uses. However, by the middle of that decade serious consideration was being given to the flying-boat for commercial aviation.
