The novel"The Catcher in the Rye"by J. D. Salinger, the most controversial one in American literature, is generally recognized as one of the"modern classics"in American literature by American literary circle. Through narrating Holden's experi-ences in New York City in the days following his expulsion from Pencey Prep, this novel profoundly reveals the extreme loneliness of people's souls in modern society.
