《德伯家的苔丝》是一部悲剧作品。小说的女主角苔丝是一个美丽善良的农家姑娘。她一生经历了被奸污，被丈夫抛弃，最后被处以死刑的悲惨命运。前人曾经把苔丝的悲惨命运归结于她自身，而本文试图从苔丝的性格---纯洁性、反抗性和保守性出发，去探索苔丝悲剧命运的根源所在。%"Tess of the D'Urbervilles"is a tragic work. The actress of the novel, Tess, is a beautiful and kind-hearted peasant girl who suffers from the tragic fate of being raped, abandoned by her husband, and finally sentenced to death. Predecessors have at-tributed the tragic fate of Tess to her own, therefore, this paper attempts to explore the root of the tragic fate of Tess from the characters of Tess-purity, resistance and conservatism.
