A Stylistic Analysis of Oliver Twist—From the Perspective of Deviation

Oliver Twist is the second novel composed by Charles Dickens,a renowned British writer from the Victorian period.It de⁃scribes the tearful experience of Oliver,an orphan.The work has been analyzed from the perspective of translation versions,charac⁃ters or social background,etc.by various scholars,but seldom from the angle of stylistic or even foregrounding.Foregrounding is a visual metaphor aiming to explain a linguistic technique,and originated from painting theory.This thesis will decipher Oliver Twist from the aspect of deviation to get the gist of the work and savor the beauty of stylistic.
