Cnide polysaccharides extracted from the elm bark with water were identified by UV and IR spectra analysis. GC analysis shows that the crude polysaccharides are composed of arabinose, xylose, mannose, galactose, glucose and mannitol. The concentration of polysaccharides is between 0.6-1. 5 g ? L-1 by the Prussian blue method. The reduction capacity of the polysaccharides is 50% -70% higher than that of the contrast material Vc. Smirnoff method confirms that when the concentration of polysaccharide is greater than 0. 211 0 g· L-1 , the hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity is significant, but it is significantly worse than that of Vc.
