从《基姆》看吉卜林的东西方文化观

摘要

Kim is British writer Rudyard Kipling ’s last novel about Indian subject. It contains the author ’ s own complicated eastern and western cultural views, which is specifically shown as the explicit opposition and implicit integration of eastern and Western cultures. However, confined to the diaphragm of the oriental cul⁃ture, his own imperialist stance and the inherent cultural hegemony thoughts, Kipling has never got out of his own limitation and found out a balance between the opposition and integration of eastern and western cultures.%《基姆》是英国作家鲁迪亚德·吉卜林的最后一部印度题材小说,蕴藏着作家本人复杂的东西方文化观,具体表现为东西方文化的显性对立与隐性融合。然而,囿于对东方文化的隔膜、自身的帝国主义立场以及固有的文化霸权主义思想,吉卜林始终未能走出自身局限,找到东西方文化在对立与融合中的平衡。
