English Preposition is one of the most common polysemies which has flexible collocations and various meanings. This kind of characteristics brings English learners a lot of difficulties in learning. Based on Lakoff ＆ Johnson＇s container metaphor theory and within the framework of cognitive linguistics, this paper intends to ana- lyze the spatial meanings and the metaphorical extensions of prepostion in. The metaphorical interpretation of pre- postion in provides English learners with a deeper understanding of its multiple meanings and their relations so as to help learners memorize and use this word properly in different situations.%根据Lakoff和Johnson的容器隐喻理论，解释介词in空间语义形成、隐喻意义拓展的原则及过程，可以使英语学习者更加系统、深刻地理解介词in的各个义项及各义项间的联系。
