北周隋唐时期，位于今陕北黄土高原腹地的延州在拱卫长安的都城防御体系中扮演了重要的角色，其治城是黄土高原地区的中心城市。在北周隋唐400多年的历史中，在延州先后设置延州总管府、延州都督府、鄜州都督府、渭北鄜坊丹延节度使司等地方高级管理机构，其管区随着形势的发展有着不同的变化，并奠定了如今地级延安市的雏形。%In the Northern Zhou Sui and Tang dynasties, the Yan State, located in the hinterland of the loess plateau, where now in the north of Shaanxi, played an important role in surround and protect capital Chang’an, for the city was the center of the loess plateau area. In 400 years of history, Yan State Zongguanfu(总管府),Yan State Dudufu(都督府), Fu state Dudufu, Fu Fang Dan Yan Jiedushi were setup as senior management institution, its domain with the development of the situation at home and abroad had different variety, and laid the now the prototype of the Yanan city.
