目的论视角下英文电影片名的汉译问题探究

摘要

随着中国对外开放进程的加快与海外影视作品交流的不断深入，越来越多的英文影片涌入中国的影视文化市场。英文电影片名也逐渐成为英语语言研究者关注的一个新课题。作为电影第一形象的电影片名，具有传达信息、表现美感、交流文化和吸引观众的作用。英文电影片名一般都比较简短，但是将其成功地译成中文译名绝非易事。因此，对电影片名的翻译的研究显得尤其重要。
　　 目前关于电影片名翻译的研究，大多只是结合某种理论，从片名的翻译原则、翻译方法以及翻译策略等方面进行探讨，没有进行深入而系统的论述。例如，许多学者以传统的“对等”翻译理论作为指导思想。然而，传统的“对等”翻译理论已不能解释这样一种现象：为数众多的电影译名违反对等标准，但经实践检验却十分成功。
　　 与传统“对等”翻译理论不同的是，新兴的“目的论”认为翻译行为并不只是单纯的语际转换，而是一种有目的的跨文化的交际活动。它突破了传统的翻译理论，强调翻译不只是语言层面的转换，还要考虑目标文本的文化背景与目的。“目的决定手段”是目的论最具代表性的观点。目的论为灵活采用翻译策略提供了有力的依据，也为电影片名翻译的研究开辟了一个新的视角。
　　 本文认为用目的论来指导英文电影片名的汉译是非常恰当的，它可以拓展英文电影片名翻译方面的理论研究领域，可以为译者创造力的发挥提供更大的空间，也可以为电影商业价值以及票房的实现提供理论保障。本文以目的论为理论基础，并结合案例对电影片名翻译的现象作出了解释，提出英文电影片名汉译时应采用的三个主要翻译策略（直译、意译与创译），以期更好地展现电影的艺术魅力。
