论莎士比亚戏剧翻译中的意象处理——以朱生豪汉译四大悲剧为例

摘要

以素体诗写就的莎士比亚戏剧，兼有戏剧和诗歌的双重性质。翻开莎士比亚的每一部剧作，意象比比皆是。这些数目庞杂、种类繁多的意象体现了莎士比亚的智慧，增添了莎剧语言的生动性与感染力，传达了莎剧的主题与情感，同时也能激发起读者的无限联想与审美感受。因此，意象的处理，作为衡量莎剧译作好坏的一个重要标准，是非常值得研究的。
　　 因语言文化存在差异，意象的选取和内涵也会不同。莎士比亚时期的语言和文化，赋予了莎剧意象相对固定和独特的文化含义，同时也给莎剧意象的汉译带来了一定的困难。然而，鸿沟并非无法跨越。不同民族的思维除差异之外还具有相似之处。优秀的译者也可通过不同的翻译方法达到传递莎剧意象的目的。
　　 本文从朱生豪的译本中选取了中国读者比较熟悉的莎士比亚四大悲剧（《哈姆雷特》、《奥赛罗》、《麦克白》、《李尔王》）作为主要研究对象，结合四大悲剧的实例分析朱生豪提出的保持原作“神韵”的翻译原则、他翻译莎士比亚戏剧的目的和他的诗学造诣对其翻译莎剧意象的影响。继而探讨了朱生豪在处理莎剧意象时所运用的四种方法：保留原文意象、改换原文意象、省略原文意象和扩增原文意象。
　　 由于莎剧意象承载着丰富的文化和审美内涵，译者对意象的处理方式在很大程度上决定了目的语读者能否获得与源语读者类似的审美感受。意象的内涵应尽量保留，但是为了避免误解，增加译文的可读性，译者也要针对具体的情况灵活采取适当的意象翻译方法。
