从文化翻译视角论《边城》中文化负载词的翻译

摘要

两种不同语言的转化与两种语言背后的文化因素息息相关，对于翻译而言，不能忽视语言背后所承载的文化因素。翻译活动不能再真空下进行的，必然要受到特定的文化语境制约。1990年，苏珊·巴斯内特和安德·勒弗菲尔提出了翻译领域的“文化转向”，认为翻译必须要同时考虑语言和文化因素，翻译活动也不仅仅是停留在语言层面，更要把文化因素纳入考虑范围，因此翻译学进入到了全新的文化翻译领域。巴斯内特的文化翻译理论给翻译研究提供了新的视角，在国际译学界产生了重大影响。
　　每个民族都有自己独特的文化，汉语作为一种形式、意义都十分特殊的语言，其文化负载词能鲜明地反映中国的民族文化。在沈从文的代表作《边城》小说中出现了大量的文化负载词，这些文化负载词承担着中国特有的文化事物和文化现象。本文拟分析《边城》戴乃迭英译本中的文化负载词，按照物质、生态、宗教、社会、语言五种类别进行分类，逐一研究并加以佐证。同时基于文化翻译理论的框架，结合《边城》英译本中具体的译例分析，对文化负载词的翻译策略进行研究讨论。
　　通过具体的译例研究，本文总结了戴乃迭在《边城》文化负载词的翻译中采取了“异化为主，归化为辅”的翻译策略，达到文化上的异化，语言上的归化效果。这说明异化法和归化法并不矛盾，相反，两种翻译策略互为补充。结合文化翻译理论，论文还探究了文化因素对戴乃迭翻译策略的影响，如译者目的，历史背景以及读者期待。需要说明的是，尽管戴乃迭受到当时的时代、历史等因素的限制，不能在一些文化负载词的翻译上尽善尽美，但采取特定的翻译策略对于国内译者们起到了积极的借鉴意义，并推动了中国语言文化走向世界的步伐。
