原型理论视角下翻译定义阐释

摘要

本文基于原型理论从广义上对翻译定义进行探讨，旨在对翻译定义进行更为系统的研究，以期对相关领域有更加深入的认识和了解。
　　学界普遍认为对一学科进行定义有助于其进一步发展，但另一方面，提及翻译定义，仍然是众说纷纭，莫衷一是。已有的相关研究主要从学科的角度和综合的角度出发，然而这些研究都或多或少存在一定的缺陷。有些研究采取的视域极为宽广，根本无法触及翻译的本质，有些仍然把翻译限制在语言层面，有些因为同某一特定学科结合甚密，很难将其特定视角下的翻译定义进行推广。更关键的在于，绝大多数研究缺乏一个明确的理论视角作为分析基础，因此其相关结论在系统性和说服力层面稍显不足。
　　原型理论是认知语言学中一个重要的范畴化理论，其主要原则包括成员属性的非二分性，成员地位的等级性，家族相似性以及范畴边界的模糊性。原型范畴以原型为中心，以家族相似性为构建原则，因而既具有突出的稳定性，又能在变化的时代背景下不断接纳新成员，保持相对稳定。
　　根据原型理论以及定义的普遍原则，一项合理的翻译定义应该具有突出的包容性、限制性、典型性和可操作性。以此为据，本文分析了罗曼·雅各布森、吉迪恩·图里、伊塔玛·埃文佐哈尔及钱钟书的翻译定义，指出了各自的优点及缺点所在。虽然杨炳钧和龙明慧已经根据原型理论提出了各自的翻译定义，但分析发现这些定义仍然具有一定的不足。在前人研究的基础上，本文试提出翻译是一种根据原材料寻找目标样例的活动，并认为该定义能够满足定义必备的四项原则。
　　本文通过对《了不起的盖茨比》及三个译本的分析，进一步验证了原型理论视角下翻译定义的可操作性。依据原型理论指导下的翻译观，原文的不同翻译文本都作为翻译文本范畴的合法样例而具有重要的地位，据此能够更加公正地看待这些翻译文本的地位，更加合理地评价其对翻译实践的推动作用。
