规范制约下的政治文献翻译——以《毛泽东选集》英译为例

摘要

《毛泽东选集》英译在中国翻译史上有着特殊的地位，也是政治文献翻译的经典之作，具有相当高的学术研究价值。目前国内研究，鲜有从规范理论角度来研究《毛泽东选集》英译，因此，从规范理论出发，对其进行系统科学的研究有着重要的现实意义。
　　翻译规范理论兴起于20世纪70年代，从目标语角度出发，研究翻译规范在整个翻译过程中的重要作用。翻译规范理论不仅关注文本本身，而且涉及翻译过程中的各个因素，如原文作者、历史背景、读者等，这为翻译研究提供了新的视角。用翻译规范理论来研究《毛泽东选集》的翻译活动，能够对这一过程有更全面、更深刻的认识。本文以切斯特曼的翻译规范理论为指导，以《毛泽东选集》翻译活动为对象，对《毛泽东选集》的内容、作用以及原文的文本特点进行了简单梳理，并以《毛泽东选集》的英语译本为主要研究对象，通过史料研究、文本分析、数据统计研究翻译规范在其翻译活动中的重要作用。
　　研究发现，期待规范、责任规范、交际规范和关系规范对《毛泽东选集》英译活动有如下几个影响:第一，为了遵守期待规范，译者通过添加句子成分和调整句子结构等策略以此来翻译出既符合语法，又流畅且逻辑清楚的文本;第二，关于责任规范，译者非常重视对《毛泽东选集》原文本的理解以及原文意义的传播;第三，谈到交际规范时，译者充分保障目标读者和源文本之间的沟通交流，采用直译和意译的翻译方法，尽量消除源文化与目标文化之间存在的文化障碍;第四，为了遵守关系规范，译者在翻译涉及到党和国家的重要方针和政策时，采用的异化的翻译策略，在其他情况，如有出现妨碍目标读者对《毛泽东选集》的理解，也会适时采用归化翻译策略。
