该文报告了一个关于本族语与非本族语者进行e-mail交流的案例研究,其目的是为了揭示本族语与非本族语者之间的语言差异,以及非本族语者在交流中所遇到的语言困难,问题和他们对e-mail作为语言学习工具的态度.研究对象包括两个班,两个班的学生分别在首都师范大学英语系的三年级和美国Morehead大学教育系的三年级学习.作者通过他们交流的e-mail信件、调查问卷、面谈、课堂观察来收集数据并进行定量和定性分析.结果表明,尽管中国学生与美国学生在准确性与流利性方面存在显著差异,但在句子复杂性方面却没有统计意义的差别.就中国学生作为英语学习者在与英语本族语者交流中遇到的困难而言,数据显示很多中国学生不同程度地在单词、句法、俚语等方面遇到障碍,尤其是文化差异给中国学生造成的交流困难更为显著.另外,不便利的上网条件和本族语者的回信缓慢、甚至没有回信都对e-mail的顺利交流造成困难.虽然中国学生在e-mal交流中体验到困难和挫折,但他们都认为e-mail作为一种工具能够促进语言的学习,提高他们的语言能力,并希望这种与本族语者的e-mail交流能够继续下去.该研究具有理论意义和实践意义.理论意义表现在:为理论家提供了建构第二中介语(L2 interlanguage)模式的实证数据.实践意义在于:通过系统了解掌握中国学生与美国学生之间的语言差异、以及中国学生在交流中所遇到的困难、问题,可以有针对性地解决问题、进行更加有效的学习和训练,从而进一步提高中国学生的语言水平和更好地利用e-mail这种交流工具为语言学习服务.
