The Sol-An Rail Tunnel with 16.24 km in length has been under construction since 2000 in Korea.rnThis paper investigates the relationship between ventilation system and escape routes of an emergencyrnrescue station in the Sol-An Rail Tunnel by using the reduced scale experiments. In this study, thernexperiments are performed by use of thermal buoyant smoke with the 1:48 reduced scale models of thernrescue station and the train. Also, the slope of tunnel is used when testing. The buoyant smoke isrngenerated through the windows of the middle cabin of the train in the tunnel. The behaviours of smokernare observed under emergency operation mode of the ventilation system in the rescue station by usingrnvisualization techniques and the flow velocities at various positions in the tunnels are measured.
