GasKinetic BGK Schemes for Hypersonic FlowComputations

This paper summarizes our recent progress in developing several gas-kinetic Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) schemes based on the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook(BGK) model for the Boltzmann equation to compute hypersonic gas flows. These schemes use one or multiple temperatures, constant or variant specific heat ratios and they are applicable for a wide range of practical hypersonic gas flow simulations from continuum to transitional regimes with a relatively faster speed than the traditional particle simulation method. To illustrate the capability of these schemes, this paper includes some preliminary test results with external hypersonic flows, including one-dimensional, two-dimensional, axisymmetric, three-dimensional hypersonic flows, and magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) flow examples.
