A novel concept of the "Surgery Recorder System" (SRS) for minimally invasive surgery (MIS) was proposed. With rapid spread of MIS as the solution for better quality of life of patients, the specific accidents in MIS have been increasing unfortunately. There is strongly demanded of the analytic, objective methodology to identify the causes of surgical accidents. The SRS records decomposed surgery information; position/force information of surgical tools, visual information vir an endoscope and sound information in the operating theater. They are finally stored into hard disks as digitizing time-series data just like a flight/voice recorder. A pig experiment in-vivo by an expert was also performed for testing a Surgery Recorder Forceps equipped with a 6-DOF magnetic position sensor and a 6-axis force/torque sensor of small size and light weight. Then false operative approaches to diaphragma and liver were analyzed quantitatively in postoperative evaluation.
