In the teaching practice of Chinese universities, especially local undergraduate universities, there is an abnormal phenomenon in the allocation of undergraduate students' engagement in different learning contents, which is manifested by insufficient engagement in in-class learning, but a great deal of energy devoted to out-of-class learning, such as postgraduate entrance examination and various vocational qualification examinations. In this paper, the causes for the above anomalies are analyzed from the perspective of employment, and it is found that the information asymmetry in the job market provides the motivation for university students' high engagement in out-of-class learning, while the low requirements for in-class learning in Chinese universities provide opportunities for them to further increase their out-of-class learning engagement by reducing the in-class learning engagement. Finally, the relevant countermeasures are put forward based on the analysis of the causes. The research of this paper enriches the relevant literature of universities students' engagement and provides a new idea for the future research on the basis of analysis from the perspective of employment.
