Hitherto, bacteriocinogenic lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains recovered from fish have been identified and characterized only to a limited extent, compared to other food products such as dairy and meat, There is increasing interest in fish microbiotaand LAB hosted by the GI tract of fish, as antimicrobially active strains may be used as an antibiotic substitute to prevent colonization of pathogenic bacteria in the GI tract. The aim of this study was to characterize antimicrobial properties exertedby Lactobacillus casei AP8 isolated from the microbiota of Beluga (Huso huso) also considering the inhibitory potential against food-borne pathogens, food spoilage bacteria and aquaculture bacterial pathogens.
