SUPPORT SYSTEMS FOR EARNING DOCTORAL DEGREE IN JAPANESE UNIVERSITIES: The University Course in the Nuclear Researchers Exchange Program

FNCA membership countries request support for their students, scientists and engineers to earn doctoral degrees in a framework of FNCA program. Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology newly starts 'the University Course' in the Nuclear Researchers Exchange Program to reply to their request. In this paper, this Course is introduced first. There are two kinds of ways to be able to earn doctoral degrees in Japan: One is a student attending a doctor course in a graduate school and the other is for excellent scientists and engineers, who do not attend a graduate school, to submit their doctoral dissertations to universities. Next, the doctor course in Japanese universities is mentioned. In addition, the system to earn a doctoral degree by submitting a doctoral dissertation is described. Finally, for the purpose to earn doctoral degrees from universities in their own countries, the possibility of sandwich program using the University Course is discussed.
