This paper conducts a questionnaire study on the acquisition of the English noun plurals of the college students in Shandong University of Science and Technology. The objective of this study is to find out the status quo and the developmental characteristics of college students' acquisition of the English noun plurality. It further discusses the causes of the findings. On the one hand,Chinese learners are affected by L1 in the process of acquiring noun plurals.Thus, a negative transfer happens. On the other hand, the markedness of the plurals of English nouns can help to explain why college students meet so many difficulties in their learning process. The results and findings of this study can be enlightening to English teaching and second language acquisition.
