We report on the Thinking in Physics project, which helps students who demonstrate weak scientific reasoning skills, as measured by low preinstruction scores on the Lawson Test of Scientific Reasoning Ability. Without special help, such students are unlikely to achieve a good conceptual understanding of introductory mechanics. The project is supported by NSF grant 0633353.
