SOLID STATE FEATURES IN THE HERSCHEL-PACS-RANGE

The Herschel-PACS instrument will enable spectro-scopic observations of dusty environments in the 57-210 μm range with unprecedented sensitivity and a spectral resolution of 1000-4500. While the ISO mis-son opened the field of asteromineralogy at shorter wavelengths, Herschel-PACS will do this at longer ones. Already available laboratory data are sometimes incomplete in the far infrared, especially at low temperatures. Hence, the knowledge about the properties of potential carriers of FIR resonance bands is limited. A reliable inventory of solid state dust features is thus an essential ingredient for the preparation and interpretation of Herschel-PACS observations. We present our efforts in this field and present examples of dust features at wavelengths larger than 57μm, such as those of silicates (forsterite, fayalite and diopside), graphite and ices.
