Feature Definition Language for Bridging Solids and Features.

An approach to feature-based modeling is described where solid and feature models are integrated via feature definitions coded in a special feature definition language. The feature definitions are represented as Lisp frame structures, and new definitions can be easily provided by the user. Feature definitions provide a two-way link between features and geometry, by which geometry can be created for a feature model, and inversely features can be recognized from geometry. This is used to implement a hybrid of feature-based design and feature recognition in a single system.
