Ni_4Ti_3 precipitates are crucial to the processing and design of superelastic and shape memory systems based on Ni-Ti alloys. However, many fundamental questions remain about the actual physical and crystallographic aspects of these precipitates and their relation with the B2 to B19'martensitic transformation in the embedding matrix. In the present lecture the focus will be on advanced electron microscopy techniques, transmission as well as scanning, applied to the quantification of certain three-dimensional (3D) parameters.
