Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramics are of great technological interest due to their excellent piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties. In the present work, a modified coprecipitation method for PZT phase preparation was proposed by combining the advantages of partial oxalate method and coprecipitation method. Firstly, the zirconium and titanium hydroxides were coprecipitated to form the precipitate of (Zr,Ti)O(OH)_2. Then, the lead hydroxide was precipitated into a ammonia solution in which the precipitate of (Zr,Ti)O(OH)_2 obtained above was well dispersed. The single perovskite PZT phase was directly synthesized without any intermediate phase appearing by calcinations the precursor at 500°C-800°C. The method proposed in the paper is an effective route for the synthesis of PZT powders.
