The oftentimes mindless, and typically violent, paradigm of interactive multimedia video games would not seem to offer much potential to be a solcially constructive force, but the power of games to capture the attention of teenagers and young adults, demographic shifts in game use, and the recent harnessing of the connectivity offered by the World Wide Web for online multiplayer gaming is the subject of this preliminary examination of cultural identity construction and electronically mediated communication. An understanding of the primary relationship between human-machine interface design informed by cultural preferences is crucial for the nascent Information Technology industry.
