(2132) STUDENT'S REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND EXISTING DIFFICULTIES ON COMPUTER SCIENCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION1

In higher education the institutions invest huge amount of resources into developing e-learningcurricula. Teachers introduce to use them in open, distance and blended courses.Can students use them in an effective way? Do they have difficulties in learning these curricula,creating the electronic documents that exercises need, downloading and uploading files, etc.Teachers' experiences show some problems in this field. What can be the problems? Do studentshave the necessary knowledge for using the curricula and the electronic learning environments thatthey have to use? Do they dispose of the adequate competences and computer skills that theelectronic curricula and learning environments require during their studies?In this paper we examine the required competencies of students that enable using electronic materialsand electronic learning environments, and difficulties which appear on this field. We organize thecompetencies and difficulties into a clear-cut system that can help teachers to detect shortcomingsand solve the arising problems.
