In last decades, serious games became more and more popular as a modern means for education and training in various professional areas. However, intensive research in the area personalization and adaptation of such video games, the effective tailoring of different game features to the individual player's model remains an unresolved issue. The present paper aims at the determination of the effect of dynamic adaptation of game tasks solely according to the player's cognitive abilities and skills, which are measured during the playing session. It provides results from an experimental study exploring the methods of adapting video games to the outcomes achieved by the player. The experiments are realised by means of two three-dimensional video games developed by the authors - a game simulator (a car driving game) and a first-person shooter on moving objects. The presented results reveal that the methods for dynamic adaptation lead to a statistically significant improvement in both the players' achievements and gaming experience including learning satisfaction, efficiency, immersion, motivation, and emotion.
