The testing of unlicensed medicines is vital due to the possibility of illegal adulteration and/or contamination with potential adverse health effects to consumers. The direct analysis of solids or liquids using ASAP on QToF provides simultaneous intact molecular ion and fragmentation information with high mass accuracy while allowing samples to be analysed very rapidly and without the need for complex sample preparation or chromatography. Speed and specificity of analysis result from the combination of these techniques. For precise and accurate quantitation using validated methods and to reach lower detection limits UPLC/MS/MS can be used on screened samples that test positive for the presence of adulterants and contaminants.
