This paper describes the development, implementation and evaluation of an internet-based problem-based learning (PBL) simulation for students and practitioners in the health professions. It was developed to support a problem-based model in which learners can work together online to discuss cases at a distance. The model aims to bring together the strongest features of simulations: engagement and immersiveness with one of the strongest features of face-to-face learning: social interaction. This model combines these strengths to create a new learning system for health education and this paper examines how learners benefit from this online environment. This paper also discusses the next steps in our research and development.
