Work in Progress - Cost-Effective Experiments for a First-Course in Electrical Machine Theory

This WIP describes how an economical, commercially-available, dissectible machines system is being employed to support student studies in machine theory. Alternative, low-cost, training systems are also discussed. The system is used to complement theoretical study by allowing students to build and test a variety of electrical machines. Practical exposure has allowed students to more clearly relate the three main aspects of electrical machines: magnetic field interactions, circuit models, and mechanics. Affordable extensions to the basic system are described that allow the realization of other machine types as modest funding becomes available.
