Axially chiral biaryl systems are of increasing importance as bioactive natural products, as efficient reagents, and as ligands for asymmetric synthesis. Moreover, directly linked porphyrin arrays display an attractive structural motif, e.g. for electron and energy transfer investigations. The combination of axial chirality and porphyrin chemistry might thus open new perspectives in the development of novel chiral catalysts, reporter groups, or unprecedented materials with pronounced chiral and chiroptical properties.
