摘要

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L., Umbelliferae) is a small annual plant that has been cultivated for several millennia and is still grown in North and South America, Europe and the Mediterranean countries. The main components are volatile oil, fatty oil and hydroxycoumarins. The fresh herb has a bug-like smell that is caused by volatile 2-alkenals. Studies show that volatile components from the leaves inhibit the growth of a range of micro-organisms, and that extracts from coriander leaves have antioxidant activity. Kubo and Morimitsu reported the cytotoxicity of green tea flavor compounds against two solid tumor cells. It is reported in this paper, that the major components for the toxicity are nerolidol, β-ionone, δ-cadinene, and β-caryophyllene. A homoisoflavone was identified as a specific Bcl-2 phosphorylating agent in Vietnamese coriander. However, cancer chemoprevention by the volatile oil of coriander was not yet been reported.
